What is the Monsignor Michael F. Sexton Endowment?The Monsignor Michael F. Sexton Continuing Education Endowment advances the Christ-centered mission of Catholic education through enabling educators in our Diocese of Birmingham Catholic Schools to enrich and expand their professional expertise.
Named in honor of Monsignor Michael Sexton, the Monsignor Michael F. Sexton Continuing Education Endowment is an endowed fund with the Catholic Foundation of North Alabama. The endowment is overseen by the Investment Committee of the Catholic Foundation of North Alabama and by the Monsignor Michael F. Sexton Endowment Review Committee.

Why is the Monsignor Sexton Endowment Important?
Educators who choose to work in a Catholic school are fulfilling an important calling. The availability of scholarships through the Monsignor Michael F. Sexton Continuing Education Endowment promotes the highest degree of excellence and leadership in our schools and provides our faculty with an additional value for accepting the call to work in our schools.

How are Monsignor Michael F. Sexton Endowment Funds Used?
The Monsignor Michael F. Sexton Continuing Education Endowment provides annual scholarships for professional staff in diocesan Catholic schools to continue their education or pursue advanced degrees.
Each spring, professional staff are invited to submit applications for a Monsignor Michael F. Sexton Continuing Education scholarship. The Monsignor Sexton Review Committee makes award decisions based on the applications received. The scholarships provide up to 80% of the recipient's tuition.

2024-2025 Monsignor Sexton Scholarship Recipients
Mr. Matthew Ogonowski, History Teacher, Holy Spirit Catholic School in Tuscaloosa: Mr. Ogonowski is pursuing a Master's degree in Instructional Leadership at the University of Montevallo.
Mrs. Brittany Saibini, Resource Teacher, Holy Spirit Catholic School in Tuscaloosa: Mrs. Saibini is pursuing a Master of Teaching degree in Special Education at Arkansas State University.
Mrs. Courtney Magee, Principal, St. Joseph Regional Catholic School in Florence: Mrs. Magee was a 23-24 scholarship recipient and is graduating in December 2024 with a Master's degree in Instructional Leadership from the University of Alabama.

2023-2024 Monsignor Sexton Scholarship Recipients
Mrs. Victoria Jordan, Counselor at Prince of Peace Catholic School in Hoover, and Mrs. Courtney Magee, Principal of St. Joseph Catholic School in Florence, received the first scholarship awards from The Monsignor Michael F. Sexton Continuing Education Endowment in September 2023.
