Catholic Social Services is coordinating the disaster relief efforts for the diocese.
We are collecting information about Catholic families who have been impacted by the storms. Please send information related to:
- Loss of life
- Loss of employment
- Homes damaged or destroyed
- Other unmet needs, for example debris removal, shelter, food, clothing, medical supplies and transportation needs.
New Effort: Adopt a Family
We invite your family to “adopt a family.” Here is what’s needed for the long term: moral support through prayer and personal contact, letters, phone calls and offers of other assistance.

On Thursday morning we woke up to an unprecedented, catastropic damage in our Diocese from the tornadoes and storms of Wednesday, April 27. We continue to to receive reports of death, destruction and devastation from our staff and from first responders as they continue to work and search throughout the Diocese. On Wednesday night and Thursday morning, we began trying to communicate with our diocesan offices and parishes to access the

the damage. As you can an imagine, our infrastructure was severely damaged and communication has been extremely difficult. At this time we began hearing from people and agencies throughout the country wanting to assist us in recovery. On Friday, I accompanied Bishop Baker in North and West Alabama to view the damage and to interview victims and service providers. We want to accurately report our disaster situation to the Catholic community and to others wanting to assist us. The images and stories will stay in our hearts forever and I assure you of my commitment and the commitment of Catholic Social Services to do our part to serve our brothers and sisters who have been broken by the monstrous event.
